Jane Pryor produces her paintings in series and the work is structured around a meditative process. Decisions regarding colour and form are made intuitively as the paintings gradually evolve, with careful attention given to the abstract relationships that emerge. The geometry and 'spareness' of the work allows for freedom of thought and an open process. The paintings correlate to those structures that underpin our lives, making reference to music, landscape, and the actual experience of being. The process of painting as both means and end; as both journey and destination. The same contemplative gaze is evoked in the viewer as that experienced in the studio during the process of making the work.
Pryor studied BA Fine Art at Central St Martins and on the Turps Art School Correspondence Course working from her studio in Cambridgeshire. She exhibits locally and nationally and exhibitions have included 'Recursive', no format gallery; 'Structure - the edit', The Ruskin Gallery, Anglia Ruskin University and 'Structure', ARB, Cambridge University.
