Claire Manning explores and exploits the potential of processes and materials, layering, fracturing, disrupting, appropriating and displacing. She works with images and spaces that feel overlooked, abandoned and lost, commenting on issues relating to power, control and desire, and exploring how vulnerable fixed ideas are to subversion. Manning is fascinated by shifting realities; in the ability of photographs to trap something living in deathly stillness and in moving image to re-animate what's lost and gone. She re-assembles her materials into ephemeral new possibilities that contain a hint of the truth, producing non-traditional collages, prints, posters, animations, assemblages and installations.
Claire Manning graduated with an MA in Fine Arts (Distinction) from University of the Arts, Wimbledon, London in 2013 and is a founder member and Director of the artists' collective, Making Art Work. She has exhibited widely across London and the South East in group shows including in 2014: 'Response' at Maidstone Museum, 'The Other Side of Here' at the 51zero Film and Arts Festival, and 'Tension' at the Sevenoaks Kaleidoscope Gallery. She was also short listed for the Clifford Chance Sculpture Prize in 2014.
